The ELL program at AIS is a pull-out program designed to aid English Language Learners (ELLs) in their core curriculum studies and to help them improve their English language skills. Students who are selected for the program are ones that are below grade-level in their English proficiency and need the extra one-on-one attention to ensure that they are successful academically at AIS.
While in the ELL program, the student will have vocabulary, content, and assignments reinforced from his core academic classes. He will also be instructed in reading, writing, speaking, and listening English to build on already existing skills and to acquire new skills.
Depending on the ELL’s level of English proficiency, he will attend classes 3 or 4 times per week for about 45 minutes each session. Sometimes these sessions will be with other students who are at a similar level of English language use.
