Preschool

At our vibrant preschool we provide a program that follows the way God intended children to learn by promoting learning activities that stimulate their emotional, physical, spiritual, and individual academic growth.  Combining these elements, your child will have a strong, holistic foundation for entry into Kindergarten. Our faculty is well-trained and participates in scheduled professional development training throughout the year. Our goal in Pre-Kindergarten is to give your child a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning. As children learn best when they feel safe and nurtured, we partner with parents and caregivers to develop a secure, happy child who is ready to learn. Our programs begin at age three and continue until your child is ready for success in Kindergarten. You are warmly welcomed to the Preschool of the American International School! Read our Welcome Letter from the Principal here.

In these formative years, we promote planned learning stages with a theme-structured curriculum that is in line with the Virginia State Standards. These learning opportunities give students exposure to many instructional styles and encourage a love for learning.

Reading Month

The home-school connection is vital in the development of reading during the early years. Each October we celebrate our love and the importance of reading throughout our school with a variety of activities, including Read-All-Day Day and Story Book Character Dress-up Day. Parents, guardians and teachers helped our preschool students to read nearly 2,000 minutes during Reading Month! Our school read over 97,000 minutes during Reading Month.

100 Days of School

Our preschool and lower elementary students look forward to the 100th Day of School Celebration. The preparation and results of this celebration reinforce the foundations of number sense, including place value and operations, measurement and data, basic algebraic thinking and recognizing and forming patterns.

Our Christian teachers purposefully and gently guide students into the knowledge of Christ through a variety of activities that span across subject areas. In an age-appropriate, loving, and nurturing environment teachers serve as Christian role models to help students in living their faith in practical ways with high respect for individual, cultural, and linguistic diversity.

 Chapel

Every day is a transformational experience, but Wednesdays are special!  During weekly Chapel, students are given the opportunity to play friendly games, sing praises, participate in skits, lead worship and preach the Good News! Worship is all inclusive.

AIS Annual Christmas Program

Each year we celebrate the birth of Jesus with a school-wide Christmas program, which includes grades PK3 to 5th grade.

Spiritual Emphasis Week

During SEW guest speakers participate in this week-long event with emphasis on renewal and rejuvenation of the spirit. This year our theme is “Be the Change.”ES 1 small

At AIS, we empower students to take action and live out their learning in a number of ways. As preschool students learn at play, they are given the opportunity to exhibit their learning through sharing and discovering knowledge.

J-Term

During J-Term students participate in a number of different classes, raise funds to support a local charity, and take time to serve the public through volunteer work.

International Day

Our school community comes together to learn about different nations and enjoy cultural performances by students and parents of the school.

Fine Arts Extravaganza

The Fine Arts Extravaganza  in May is our last school-wide event for the academic year, but preparation starts far ahead of time. Since April is Poetry Month, it is our language arts focus for the month of April. During the Extravaganza, students recite poetry and spoken word they have either learned or composed.  Student artwork is also displayed, while high school students perform for the Annual Spring Musical.
