Switch Central

Student Ministries at AIS
Switch Central is our Wednesday celebration, and is centered around the scripture ‘Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new’ (2 Cor 5: 17). We want every student to have the opportunity to accept Christ and grow in their relationship with Him.

  1. To lead students to discover Christ (salvation)
    • Students find a personal, genuine and radical salvation
  2. To empower students to follow Christ whole-heartedly (discipleship)
    • Building strong foundations: prayer, Bible, church, character
    • Putting off the old and putting on the new: repentance and renewal
    • Stirring up God-given talents and gifts to impact the world around them

Mission for Switch Central
Our Wednesday program is based on three ingredients:

  1. FUN. Life-to-the-full events. (John 10:10)
  2. INTIMACY. Powerful praise & worship. (Hebrews 12: 28-29)
  3. TRUTH. Life application of the Word of God. (3 John 4)

We incorporate team challenges, group games, discussion, poignant talks and opportunity to respond, along with worship and student participation. We encourage guest speaker participation, and have strong links with pastors and creative artists who connect powerfully with students. Our newest venture is developing students as leaders, and our Contagious Leadership class leads the way in planning and presenting Chapel services. Our Bible classes also play a vital role in presenting games and testimony to the other students.
Mentoring through Advisory Groups
Every Wednesday and Thursday from 2.30 – 3.00pm our small groups (called Advisory Groups) meet to discuss the message presented in Switch Central that week. The studies include group activities, Bible study and discussion time and are a valuable tool in the spiritual development of our students. The other advisory sessions are a combination of social interaction and study support. The third week of March is dedicated to school-wide spiritual emphasis activities. This year our theme is ‘Love in Action’ and the week will include missions trips into the community, creative projects within the school grounds, and worship sessions. We want our students to know they are loved by God, and give them opportunity to demonstrate that love to other people. This year, our Contagious Leadership class is taking the lead in planning activities, so the program will be tailor-made for the needs and desires of our students.

For those who want more, every Tuesday there is a session for all Middle and High School students from 7.15 – 7.50am. Students discuss the Christian viewpoint on issues relevant to young people’s lives, and incorporate prayer and Bible into each session. There is also opportunity for students to pray with their peers every Thursday morning before school.
